Non Executive Chairman

Tommy is the Non Executive Chairman for Lateral and CEO of Lateral Capital Ventures which specialises in making strategic investments in only the most innovative and disruptive of technologies. He splits his time between Australia’s east/west coasts and Asia, focusing his efforts on business development, investing, structuring deals and capital raising. He has over 15 years’ experience in business development, marketing, running businesses with multiple successful exits and acquisitions. His legal and business acumen has created a diverse network in Australia and Asia from early start ups to corporate and government accounts. In 2016, Tommy was a winner of the prestigious 40under40 award that recognises and celebrates Western Australia’s 40 leading business entrepreneurs under the age of 40. Tommy is currently the CEO of Lateral Capital Ventures, a boutique Venture Capital firm specialising in Tech investments. He is also the Executive Chairman at BluestorK Foundation, a non for profit charity helping orphans, Non Executive Chairman at Lateral, a custom software development company, Non Executive Chairman at Buzvil, Non Executive Chairman at Tamad Technologies, CEO at the National Currency eXchange, Investor Relations Officer at Eclipse Metals Ltd (EPM.ASX) and Council Member at the Australian Korean Business Council and Australian Digital Commerce Association.

Chief Executive Officer

Thushara’s operational skills and knowledge of diverse technologies underscores more than 20 years’ experience in the IT sector throughout Europe, Asia and Africa, mostly focusing on strategy and project management. He has worked in many areas of IT enabling him to effectively match business needs with technology solutions and manage successful delivery, making him a visionary in the tech space. Drawing on his extensive experience in a range of projects and organisations, he knows how (and how not) to use IT to deliver the best results. He is a Board Member of Safety House WA and is one of those crazed people for whom computers are both a hobby and a career, and genuinely believes technology is trying to make the world a better place. Thushara is the only person in our office that does not have a Facebook account and in fact is very passionate about it. He likes to treat himself to a few extra cold vodka lime soda's as well as cleaning up the mess Tommy has created.

Advisory Board Member (Capital Markets)

Shane holds over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, being the founding director of Alto Capital and previously as a Senior Investment Manager at one of Perth’s most prominent stockbroking firms. Shane has built a reputation as one of Perth’s leading equities advisors building close relationships with a number of leaders in the Asian and Perth’s business community. He is focused on building long term relationships with strategic partners which continuously value adds to local network of clients and contacts throughout South East Asia – which is usually done over a few cigars or whiskeys at his second home – Devlins! Shane’s ethos in business is relationships before business! His passion for his cars, motorcycles, whiskeys and cigars - which is not always a good combination - is one way he zones out from the corporate world when he needs to.

Advisory Board Member (Investor Relations)

David has extensive experience in public relations with a strong background in investor relations, media relations, government relations, sponsorship management and community liaison. He joined PPR, Australia’s largest integrated public relations company, in April 2004. Since 2006 David managed the Investor Relations division within PPR, where he directly managed, where appropriate, national and international media relations, government relations and investor relations for a range of corporate clients.
In his role of National Director, Investor Relations with PPR David oversaw the growth of PPR’s engagement within the technology sector, including its investment in the hugely successful TechKnow Roadshow investor conference, held twice a year on the east coast of Australia, and the launch of the TechInvest Magazine, which identifies and promotes Australian technology companies, including start-ups, incubators, accelerators, entrepreneurs and listed companies. David sits on the Advisory board of the West Tech Fest technology/ innovation event held in Western Australia each December.

Ben most enjoys sitting at the intersection of product and technology, delivering quality solutions to clients and end-users. Having experience in both large enterprises and start-ups (including one of his own), Ben brings a unique perspective to software development and delivery.

Bill’s a down to earth Yorkshireman who has worked in IT for over 25 years and has held every IT role from a developer through to an IT Manager. He has an accounting background and a wide experience in a variety of industries including manufacturing, retail, insurance and distribution. And he used to walk 10 miles to work, barefoot, in the snow, uphill in both directions.

Brian has worked in IT for over 20 years and has vast experience in software design and development over a wide variety of industries including agri-business and finance. His technical know-how in the LANSA toolset is second to none and his analytical and problem solving abilities are first class. He is a keen soccer follower and is as passionate about sport as he is about IT.

Test Manager

Chris is an experienced Test Manager/Lead with almost two decades of industry experience. When Chris is not trying to break our software, he can be found roaming the city taking photos of newlyweds as a professional wedding photographer. During what is left with his spare time, Chris enjoys creating and mastering music in his home recording studio and jamming with his band on percussions. Chris is a self-confessed audiophile, who also loves fast cars and cooking at home with family and friends.

Clinton has been building enterprise software products for 15 years, working across various industries including telecomms, healthcare and mining. He's always on the lookout for opportunities to improve processes and quality. Most of his spare time is spent enjoying the company of his young family and the occasional long, winding motorcycle ride.

Dom is a gifted software developer, always willing to take on a new challenge. He is very particular about the look and feel of the software he produces and will refuses to release any software that does not meet his own exacting standards. He has a number of years experience with the full LANSA toolset, many scripting languages, and the Aeropress coffee maker.

Executive Assistant

With extensive experience in design, service and Personal Assistant roles, Isabella decided it was time to step up to the fast paced and exciting role of Executive Assistant to Tommy and Thushara and has recently joined the Lateral team. Isabella has interests in design and business, and is working towards her goal of owning a Mercedes AMG C-43, and eating her way through Europe, North and South America.

James has 8 years business development experience in Australia. He prides himself on finding the best possible solution for his clients. Working extensively in Transport and Logistics, he has learnt to think outside the box. He has an international expat background and loves to travel. When necessary, he can make a half decent Espresso Martini.

Service Support Manager

Jason’s a .NET web developer as well as a SQL Server expert who has never written a single cursor in his life; a source of considerable pride and constant lecturing. Jason has strong leadership and management skills, in addition to excellent customer service skills. He leads the Service Delivery department ensuring our clients are happy, and assisting them with their technical issues and mishaps. Jason is a Kendo master with quite an impressive bamboo sword. He drives a Mercedes SLK, and doing his bit to further the stereotype, plays RPGs with actual dice.

Jason has worked in IT for over 15 years, in a range of different industries from human resources to investment banking. During his career he has worked with a range of technologies, but has spent most of his time developing applications with .NET and SQL Server. Never being one to shy away from a challenge he also spent several years in academia applying his software development skills to the challenging field of theoretical particle physics - being involved in the hunt for new particles which might one day be detected at the Large Hadron Collider.

Jim originates from the world of the Petrochemical and Mining industry, with over 10 years experience in the field. Leaving that behind, he has decided to engage both his technical and creative mind and try his hand at Software Testing and Graphic Design. With an appreciation of digital art and an eye for aesthetics, Jim enjoys putting his heart into his work and his skills to the test to deliver that ‘WOW’ factor. Outside of work, he enjoys showing off pictures of his baby daughter, playing games with friends and is keen on Martial Arts.

Jon's commercial experience is a mix of project delivery and consultancy with a wide range of experience within the Microsoft product suite. He possesses a proven ability to lead project teams to deliver agreed upon solutions of the highest quality. He likes to keep active and, allegedly, swims and plays squash regularly. He also likes reading and listening to music.

Kevin joined our team as an iOS developer but soon proved to be an all-rounder with his Android and .NET development skills. As a fan of technology, friends told him he had too much spare time when they saw him installing home automation. Now they find it cool to see lights changing colours and want it for themselves, but he prefers enjoying it with his little daughter who greatly profits from having a geeky Daddy.

Lewis has an extensive background in building & integrating in-house reporting & financial systems for organisations in Singapore and Malaysia. He’s one of the few Android adherents in the office, making for some interesting discussions with the iOS majority. Perhaps we’re all just jealous he has a bigger phone.

Martin brings over 18 years of consulting experience in the banking and finance sectors, and with it all, the wisdom of how to do things right and how not to do things wrong. As a result he is our in-house IT Generalist, leading our development teams, and quickly comes up with fit for purpose solutions to technical and business process problems. He has a long list of clients including NAB, MLC, Norwich Union, Australian Unity, Rentsmart, Sealcorp, National Heart Foundation, Volkswagen, Lumley Insurance, AAPT, Entity Solutions and Vinnies. He's recently moved back from Melbourne to chase the sunshine, spend more time drinking beers at the Cott and when he has some spare time, he enjoys fixing things, sailing, playing piano and keyboards and producing music.

Mark is our native Android and iOS Developer who left his position as a university lecturer several years ago to pursue his passion for mobile development. Mark's unnatural tolerance for caffeine helps fuel his after-hours interests in virtual and augmented reality technologies, game development and computational intelligence. In what's left of his spare time Mark enjoys training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, gymnastics and rock climbing.

Paul arrived fresh-faced and enthusiastic, head full of the useless knowledge that universities pump into their unsuspecting Computer Science students. He started as an intern with Lateral and has now managed to weasel his way into a full time role. Since joining Lateral he has splurged on a 3D Printer kit (unassembled) and a white leather motorcycle jacket which his wife won’t let him wear. He teams up with Lewis in the Android camp, and has a similarly oversized phone.

Nastassja turned up in the IT world 7 years ago with no idea about computerators or the interwebs. Since then she has come a long way technically, even working in Technical Support and learning Web Design before moving into Testing. She has a keen eye for detail and is very passionate about the Quality and UX of everything she touches. When not testing everything in sight she likes to spend her time gaming online, in particular FPS. Nastassja teams up with Jason to be our biggest Apple fanboys in the office.

Dev Ops

Robert is young, enthusiastic and qualified with a Diploma in IT Networking, he has graduated high school with a Beazley Medal in the VET education pathway, having ambitions to pursue university level study in the future. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, Robert is primarily in charge of infrastructure duties. He's Lateral's "Google" and your guy if you need something cabled up. Besides tinkering with computers, he enjoys keeping fit by playing badminton on a regular basis.

Troy is a Senior Developer with extensive experience in .NET development and much more. He has been developing software solutions for over 18 years in a range of industries including retail, wholesale, warehousing, logistics and education. Troy tries hard to break down the IT nerd stereotype by keeping fit and playing every sport known to man (and yes, table tennis is a sport). He recently got a uni-cycle which he is in the process of mastering; his extended family thinks he is too old for it.
